RoadFootage

Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is RoadFootage?

RoadFootage is an Australian marketplace that connects dashcam owners with people who need road incident footage. Dashcam owners upload footage from incidents on public roads. Individuals, insurers, fleet operators, and others can then search, preview, and purchase the footage they need.

How does the platform work?

When footage is uploaded, it is mapped and indexed by location, date, and time. Footage seekers use the map to find clips matching their incident. You can preview footage before purchasing, so you only pay for what you need.

Is RoadFootage available outside Australia?

No. RoadFootage is designed for users and footage within Australia. All uploaded content must depict events on Australian public roads. If you're visiting from a region we don't support yet, you can register your interest to be notified when we expand.

How much does it cost?

RoadFootage uses a credit-based system. Credits are used to access and download footage. Pricing details are available in the platform once you create an account.

How old do I need to be to use RoadFootage?

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or upload content. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

For Dashcam Owners

What footage can I upload?

You can upload videos and photos of road-related incidents on Australian public roads. This includes crashes, near-misses, and general traffic conditions. All footage must depict events that took place within Australia. You must also hold all necessary rights to share the recording, including any audio, GPS data, and device information embedded in the file.

How do I earn from my footage?

You earn platform credits when other users purchase access to your footage. Earnings from downloads and Evidence Bounty payments are coming soon.

Can I delete my footage after uploading?

Yes, you can delete your footage at any time. If another user has already purchased access, they are entitled to download it within 30 days of their purchase. Your footage remains available to that purchaser until their window expires. After that, it is permanently removed.

What happens to my credit balance if I delete my account?

Any remaining credit balance is forfeited when you delete your account. It cannot be recovered or transferred. Footage that others purchased before your deletion stays available to them for the remainder of their 30-day download window.

For Footage Seekers

How do I find footage of a specific incident?

Use the map to browse incidents by location. You can filter by date, time, and incident type to narrow your results. Previews are available before purchase so you can confirm a clip is relevant before you buy.

What is an Evidence Bounty?

An Evidence Bounty lets you offer an incentive to dashcam owners who may have recorded a specific incident. Uploaders who respond can provide unredacted footage with full GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device metadata for use as formal evidence. Evidence Bounties are coming soon.

Can I use purchased footage as evidence?

Footage from an Evidence Bounty includes the unredacted original file with GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device identifiers, which can support insurance claims and legal proceedings. Standard downloads have faces and number plates obscured and metadata stripped. How footage is treated in any legal proceeding is a matter for the relevant parties and their advisors.

How long do I have access to footage after purchasing?

Once you purchase or earn access to footage, you have 30 days to download it.

Privacy & Safety

How is personal information in footage handled?

By default, all footage is processed to obscure faces and number plates using a combination of automated technology and manual review. GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device identifiers are also stripped from standard downloads. Only the details you provide for the incident report are shown publicly: the location, date, and description. Your name, email, and phone number are never shown to other users.

Is unredacted footage ever shared?

Unredacted footage is only shared when an uploader opts in and responds to an Evidence Bounty. The purchaser receives the original file with all embedded technical metadata. Your name, email, and phone number are never provided to the purchaser.

What personal data does RoadFootage collect?

We collect your email address to manage your account and send platform updates. When you upload footage, we also extract technical metadata from the file: GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device identifiers. Standard security data such as IP addresses is also collected. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Do you sell my data to third parties?

No. We don't sell your personal information to third parties. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the platform: Auth0, AWS, and Cloudflare. Data is also disclosed when legally required by a court order, warrant, or subpoena.

Is my data stored securely in Australia?

Yes. We use Auth0 on their Australian endpoint for identity and login management, AWS for cloud storage, and a self-hosted instance of Matomo analytics within Australia. Cloudflare handles traffic routing and security.
